OLAFUR'S RAINBOW ...

... left a deep and colorful impression on us when visiting Århus the other day! Viewing 360° of this beautiful city in each and every color is truly stunning! Moreover, the AROS over which roof this architectural masterpiece is floating in also quite worth a visit!

INSERT COIN! ...

... and witness a time warp through a true gamer's history!

The »computerspielmuseum« in Berlin exhibits anything and everything from the most classic arcade games to every single gaming console that was ever released! For well spent 8€s you may gather vast inspiration on iconic design or you can gamble all through a rainy afternoon!

Enjoy!

FREUDE AM MALEN

Ok, smearing a die-cast model with ordinary spray paint is probably not art yet ;0)

But as I'm neither Andy Warhol or Jeff Koons or Olafur Elliason nor did I receive a multi-million dollar assignment by BMW that's not the point!

No, the BMW Art Car Project goes far beyond this and to me every car is a true piece of art! Moreover, the idea of upgrading a brand's image by adding a twist of art is best-in-class marketing and therefore quite striking too!

So even if you're not into Beamers you should find some very inspiring insights here: http://www.bmw-art-cars.de/

Enjoy,

»AS LITTLE DESIGN AS POSSIBLE«

Right now, there's a new book about Dieter Rams on the selves which is just awesome!

Without question this is a must buy item for me but rather everyone dealing with design should at least risk a peek, flicking through the epic works of a true genius!

GIVE IT A FACE!

While hundreds of thousands of litres of crude oil are still flowing Greenpeace is asking to redesign the green BP logo.

Whether this will help to battle polution is up to you – however, when you are working on this piece you at least will align your thoughts with those who suffer!

PIKE BROTHERS

It's just a few days since I unpacked my brand new pair of raw demin jeans. This time though I got them from a small German garment maker instead of picking a pair from the usual brands.

Well, these guys take pride in sewing authentic and high-quality selvage denim and they know how to do this!

So if you are also into wearing raw denim down to light-blue – check this brand out: http://www.pikebrothers.com

THEY'VE CHANGED

I've been using this great little USB device called Griffin PowerMate on my Mac for several years now.
It's a jog dial made of solid aluminium which allows you to operate your system as well as any application you like by turning and clicking – nice ;-)

Since I was looking for a new firmware the other day I learned that they've changed their look completely – so this post is not about this piece of hardware but about the company's new identity.

To me the new design is looking very neat and well executed but risk a peek yourself here ...

WHEN »MIGHTY« IS NOT »MAGIC« ENOUGH

... and if you are willing to spend 70 bucks for a new mouse – suddenly, everything clicks. And swipes. And scrolls.

Well alright – it's the new »Magic Mouse« which (after two ridiculously long weeks of waiting) I finally purchased at the Apple Store yesterday.

And what should I say other than that it works extremely neat and how nice it looks ;o)

NACH8

As I'm looking for a new piece of furniture from time to time I stumbled about this Berlin based independent label called Nach8 the other day. Above you may see what these guys assemble from oak wood or plywood panels combined with some bright coloured steel fittings ...

Nice,

HAMBURG ALTERNATIVE HOUSING PT. TWO

Just in case you ever intend to have a new, bright view on the city you live in why not take rather unusual places to live into consideration? An apartment located in one of the Mundburg-Towers is one of such unique places you can choose from here in Hamburg.

So I pretty much wonder what these spots in Argentina will look like? And why not kicking down a small battle on architecture? Should be fun ...

HAMBURG ALTERNATIVE HOUSING PT. ONE

Every time we take a walk down the canal that slowly flows next to our apartment we pass by these five floating homes. Since I like the combination of the classic houseboat idea and modern architecture a lot I would appreciate it very much if Hamburg's politicians would give way for more projects like this.

So if you are also spending some thoughts on where to move to next you may gather some good additional information here: http://www.hamburger-hausboote.com/

Ahoi!

SOMETIMES ...

... you need new inspiration or adventures. Found these days a new magazine called CUT which is published in munich. Unfortunately I missed the first issue, but like the second one very much. There might be a lot to discover for us tinkers out there ... ;o)

ERASE! START ALL OVER AGAIN!

Picture yourself sitting in front of a sheet of blank paper: Once you draw a line you already tend to erase it – starting all over again ...

This will go on for quite a while until you are happy with the result you've achieved. If – after various attempts – you are not going to be happy you will very likely also use some sources of inspiration to develop your idea.

A way which to me is absolutely okay since probably nobody will never be able to reinvent the wheel whatsoever! [Anyway you of course should be very sensitive on this issue – »Yes sir, very certainly, sir! I'll never copy anything, sir!« ;o)]

Well, all the above is part of a process which should be very common to all us designers out there and even though sometimes it's hard to find the right idea it's fun and the only one basis that applies to every kind of creative work we do ...

Now, if you are ever about to create a new logo here's probably one of the best résumés on recent logo-design (short, simple and quite much to the point) you may find on the web just in order to verify sketch.

So cross-check you work and keep on scribbling ;o)

HOLY CRAP!

Click here to have a big grin on Marc's odd sense of humour and get exited about what you can express by using a pencil and a watercolour set the way he does!

Thanks Marc!

ART IN THE CITY

When you stroll through the Hafencity these days you will suddenly discover some large stacks of rusty containers – irregularly arranged and beautifully lit. A faint smell of a hearty BBQ will be in the air as well as some subwoofers will be pumping low. Finally you will learn that you are on subvision art festival.

For one week a good bunch of young artists are showcasing their work on 33.1 m³ each at this special site right next to the Elbe. Some works are really inspiring and it rather should be fun to meet up some friends having a small chat ...
